RECOMMENDED GIGS

THU, 30 JUN 2005 - Case + The Repercussion @ The Green Room, Boscombe

STORIES, FEATURES, REVIEWS

CASE @ THE GREEN ROOM 30th June 2005
'Case' - Passion - Total Conviction - At times a dark wall of sound - At times crystal clear and sparce allowing the highly charged vocals to breathe unobscured and free of distraction.
To view pictures of 'Case', click here .

BRENDA @ THE GREEN ROOM 27th June 2005
'Brenda' - Weird & Wonderful - A band that breaks the rules and let's face it, the rules are only there to be broken.

THAT BOSCASTLE FEELING 23rd June 2005
Cracking gig by Total Recall @ the Lulworth Cove Hotel on Thursday night made all the more excellent by a dramatic display of fork lightning splitting the sky over the nearby ocean. But that wasn't the end of it. When it came to packing up time for the band, the road outside the bar turned into a network of fast flowing rivers in a matter of minutes. At each trip from the bar the the van, a new river had formed and things were starting to look mighty dicey. Only one thing for it. Chuck the gear in the van and drive up the hill to dry land at the greatest possible speed. Ever felt that Boscastle feeling ??? !!!
As I write this news item from my abode in Bournemouth once again the skies are opening up. Excellent. Love it. And on the midday TV news - Glastonbury - you've guessed it - as usual, a total mudbath.
PS: Don't miss our gig tonight @ The Grange, Southbourne. Maybe the place will be struck by lightning? Sadly, no time to add 'Riders On The Storm (Doors) to our set. Enjoy the rain, folks - Roj.

SNAFU @ THE GREEN ROOM 15th June 2005
Snafu - probably the loudest band ever to play at The Green Room - dark and decidedly crunchy - accompanied by a massive following of highly charged fans - never saw so many video clips in the making in one place at one time, ever.
The band certainly must be doing something right.

THE PIRATE SHIP QUINTET June 2005
New Instrumental Post Rock Band - 'The Pirate Ship Quintet' - Very Impressive.
Recommended mp3 - 'Secret Of The City' - sort of cosmic shoegazey style - essential listening
Check it out by visiting their website and clicking on 'mp3's' - simple as that.

RECOMMENDED BAND OF THE MONTH June 2005
You must see this band - Raising Cane !!!
On fire ??? - Yes, and more - A veritable blazing inferno !!!
Ragged, rough at the edges, but what the hell. This band plays rock music the way that rock music was always intended to be played - full on, edgy, on the brink of insanity. A potent mix of originals and covers. Influences - Hendrix, Free, Z Z Top, and many more. If you missed them at the Green Room on June 1st, catch them at the Central on the 10th or again at the Green Room on the 18th. Be there - you won't be disappointed.

INDIAN SUMMER June 2005
Indian Summer - Who are they?
Indian Summer are a high quality acoustic duo formed in April 2002 featuring singer/songwriter Sophie Rhodes accompanied by guitarist Jamie Hernon.
They perform regularly in the South at music venues, hotels, restaurants, festivals, weddings and private functions, playing a diverse range of covers from the 60's to date and their own original songs.

EZIO @ KYPS Thursday, 5th May 2005
Ezio, or at least four fifths of them At Mr Kyps, last Thursday. As one expects from Ezio, a powerful performance of musicianship, material and stand-up comedy. Yes, comedy - this bloke has a quick, sharp sardonic wit well honed from years of abuse (I guess); heckle at your own risk! Having heard them at Kyps a couple of months ago, I missed the 5th member, and on balance, preferred that gig. But you'd never notice if you'd not seen them before. From well known tracks like "Saxon Street" to new songs allegedly not finished, this band is always value for money.

WHERE IS THE GREEN ROOM, ANYWAY ??? 21st Century
Had an interesting conversation with Live wire main man, Ian Peterson, at the Lillettes gig on Saturday. He said that ever since the Lillettes Farewell Farewell party appeared in his gig-guide he had received a constant stream of telephone calls enquiring as to the whereabouts of the mysterious Green Room. They say that bad publicity is good publicity, but no publicity, well, that is a recipe for potential disaster. And such a shame. Mike and Zena run arguably the best live music venue in the western world, featuring a totally open minded music policy, live music most nights of the week, usually for free, exotic barstaff from every corner of the globe (pictures coming soon!), exotic beers from every corner of Dorset and frequent bar extensions 'til the early hours, and yet, nobody knows where the damn place is !!! The fact that nearby Boscombe railway station was demolished more than fifty years ago and the fact that the notorious Green Room website hasn't been updated since the year dot, may, or may not, have something to do with it. Anyway, the room in question is located inside the Portman Hotel, which in turn is locate at the junction of Ashley Road and Tower Road in Boscombe.
Confused ??? CLICK HERE.

SOLID AIR - ON THE MOVE May 2005
Conrad Barr's Solid Air Acoustic Adventures moves from Club Destiny to The Green Room next month. More details coming soon. Interestingly this means that The Green Room will be featuring live music seven nights a week, no less. This is probably unique in the Bournemouth & Poole area. Well done, Mike & Zena.

RUBBER SOUL - ON THE MOVE May 2005
It is rumoured that Conrad Barr's Rubber Soul showcase will be moving from Club Destiny, which closes on May 8th, to O'Neill's. If rumour becomes fact then this can only be excellent news. O'Neill's is a cracking venue and I for one can walk there from my abode, hence no drink/drive problem. More news coming soon.
