JUJU MANIA RETURNS BRIEFLY TO THE COVE 18th December 2010
Don't miss the last scheduled appearence of The Juju Men this year (2010).
Catch them at The Lulworth Cove Inn on Saturday, 18th December 2010.
A unique opportunity to hear music from the primeval swamp played in a truely spectacular setting.
As Hatty once said to Matty, 'Let's not be L-7. Come and learn to dance'.
NEW LIVE MUSIC VENUES October 2010
Two new live music venues that you might like to check out are The Sloop, Parkstone and The Hogshead, Westbourne.
RETRO R'n'B AT THE LORD NELSON 3rd October 2010
The Juju Men gig at the Lord Nelson, Poole on the afternoon of Sunday, October 3rd turned out to be a bit of a classic.
The band line-up was slightly unfamiliar in that Carl Chamberlain, better known as vocalist and lead guitarist in Funhouse and The Lizards, stood in on bass for this gig.
Though not a 'real bass player' Carl rose to the occasion in fantastic fashion.
The gig featured many on the spot line-up 'swap arounds' and guest musicians.
Never a dull moment in fact.
The gig was supposed to end at 6pm but in fact continued way over time until 6.20pm by popular request from many enthusiastic members of the audience.
No doubt about it. The occasion was a resounding success.
JUJU MANIA SPREADS INTO SOMERSET 17th September 2010
After a riotous evening at the Queen Mary, Poole, The Juju Men head much further afield into Somerset on Friday, 17th September.
Destination, the Virginia Ash, Henstridge.
This is totally unknown territory for the retro rhythm and blues men from Bournemouth.
Be there to witness this event.
DAVE & HIS SLAPTOP August 2010
Don't miss 'Dave & His Slaptop' at the Lulworth Cove Inn.
Dave, the landlord, entertained bemused punters in the interval at the last Juju Men gig at the Inn.
But beware.
Dave comes with a health and safety warning.
He has been known to spill ale into unsuspecting footpedals that are unfortunate enough to be located in the vicinity.
Next time you could be his target.
So, waterproof protective clothing strongly advised.
Oh, and by the way, Dave is a great singer, especially when it comes to Tom Petty and Neil Diamond !!!
BASS PLAYER AVAILABLE August 2010
Bass player available to join or form duo with singer, guitarist
Many Thanks
Hi,
JUJU-MANIA INVADES THE SPYGLASS 23rd July 2010
The Juju Men invade the Spyglass & Kettle this Friday, 23rd July, from 9.30pm.
You have been warned !!!
Versatile Bournemouth function band, Magic, has re-invented itself as a 4-piece.
The line-up is now bass, drums, guitar and keyboards.
This band, which in some shape or form has existed since the very beginning of time, has played every imaginable type of venue and event.
So, what are you waiting for?
For your wedding celebration, birthday bash, mid-summer barbecue, New Year's Eve party or whatever, choose Magic the 'band for all occasions'.
HORIZONTAL RAIN 15th July 2010
The Juju Men had planned to wear gaudy, tasteless shirts bearing a close ressemblence to psychedelic parrot droppings to liven up their appearance at Poole's 'Summer Breeze' gig last Thursday night.
But this was destined not to be. It was a definite anorak night for all concerned.
The heavens opened up and the winds blew at gale force resulting in horizontal rain.
PA columns tottered and fell to the ground. Rain persistently dripped onto drums and into vintage Vox AC30 amps.
Thoughts of insurance claims were in the air, but no, this was an act of God.
Nevertheless, fearless as ever, the band played on right to the bitter end.
And the fabulously mixed audience of loyal locals, brave tourists and crazy eccentrics also refused to be defeated by the elements.
As the Beatles would have said, You're such a lovely audience, we'd love to take you home with us ... '.
So, a big thanks to all concerned, not least, 'Poole Tourism' who made the whole event possible.
JUJU MEN - LIVE AT SUMMER BREEZE 15th July 2010
As a result of four successful appearences at previous 'Summer Breeze' festivals The Juju Men have been invited to play at this year's festival on Thursday, 15th July, starting around 7.30pm.
This an unmissable event.
Not only will there be live music from The Juju Men, but also a variety of street entertainers will be performing and as a climax there will be a spectacular display of fireworks to wind up the evening.
GROVE TAVERN BEER FESTIVAL 18th July 2010
Don't miss the Grove Tavern Beer Festival on Sunday, July 18th.
Live music from The Juju Men from 5pm to 7pm.
You won't be disappointed.
BLUESMAN CHARLIE RETURNS FROM SPAIN June 2010
After a successful winter season spent working in the South of Spain, Bluesman Charlie, originally from Aberdeen, returns to the UK South Coast, where is currently seeking gigs or a position as a lead guitarist in a band.
Check out his superb recorded music and live performance videos at MySpace.
I guarantee you will be impressed by his unique style of playing blues guitar and by his soulful vocal delivery.
For sure, this man is the business.
ON THE BEACH AT BOSCOMBE June 2010
New venue, right beside the beach at Boscombe, featuring live music on Wednesday nights - Overstrand - Urban Reef.
JUJU-MANIA HITS LULWORTH COVE 16th May 2010
As a result of a highly successful first gig at the Lulworth Cove Inn Bournemouth old skool R'n'B band, The Juju Men have been given a series of Sunday night bookings at the venue during the summer.
The first of these is on 20th June. Well worth making the evening trip to this spectacular location.
We understand that Dave, the landlord, is planning to feature live bands every Sunday night throughout the summer and maybe beyond.
So what are you waiting for?
THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE 21st May 2010
Firebird hit the Spyglass & Kettle with a bang on Friday night - excellent band - very versatile - played all the right songs - went down a storm.
The atmosphere in the pub was vibrant, to say the least.
The highly varied throng of punters were certainly appreciative of Firebird's music, some even brave enough to venture on to the raised dancefloor and strut their stuff, or burn rubber, as the case may be.
I very much look forward to Firebird's next appearence at this super clifftop venue.
Watch this space, or to put it another way, regularly visit this webpage, to check out when this next appearence will take place.
LAZY SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN SOUTHBOURNE Spring 2010
Another new live music venue has sprung up from nowhere in Southbourne -
BOURNEMOUTH - SURF CAPITAL OF SOUTH UK April 2010
Bournemouth's very own (and one and only) garage surf band, The Pashuns, have just come up with a ground breaking new mini-album, 'Made Of Plastic', now available from Amazon.
Listen to Clips
Bournemouth can now proudly boast the title, 'Surf Capital of South UK'.
SPYGLASS & KETTLE APPEARS FROM NOWHERE March 2010
The "Spyglass & Kettle", located just a short distance west of the doomed "Grange", plans to start featuring live music this year.
Spyglass & Kettle, 25 - 27 Stourwood Avenue, Southbourne, Bournemouth, Dorset BH6 3PW
THE GRANGE DISAPPEARS WITHOUT TRACE March 2010
Long standing music venue, the Grange, on Southbourne Overcliff, is to close within the next few weeks.
It will never re-open again because the site is to be sold for redevelopment.
So more than likely it will be replaced by yet another block of unaffordable flats.
Clifftop location, panoramic sea views, location, location, location.
Familiar story really.
DRIVE AWAY THE DARK March 2010
New song just release from highly individual local alternative band, Peachy Jane.
The song is called 'Drive Away The Dark'.
Highly recommended.
DORCHESTER VENUE SEEKS BANDS March 2010
The Victoria Hotel, Dorchester is currently seeking bands.
See website for contact details.
The man to ask for is Alan Freeborn.
