Homestay - what exactly does this mean? Homestay means staying with a family in their home. It is also known as staying with a host family. You may have your own bedroom or you may share a bedroom with another person. Usually daily breakfast and an evening meal or snack will be provided for you and included in the price. You will NOT have the option of preparing and cooking your own meals. Other services may be included, such as laundry. You will share communal rooms such as the bathroom/shower room and toilet, and probably the lounge, with all the other occupants of the house or flat. Homestay accommodation is popular with foreign students when they first arrive in the U.K. This type of accommodation is usually organised by the language school which the student plans to attend.
